A Zephyr is a gentile west wind. Chance (Zephyr’s sire) was bred by Westwind Chesapeakes – a long established breeder of Chesapeake hunt competitors. However, this girl is going to stretch the meaning of gentle.
Zephyr is exhibiting the same attributes as Chopper, her litter mate – Strong, active and driven. Also, stubborn but intelligent. It took me three days to convince her not to jump on me when I fed her. On that third day, I put my hand on the kennel for balance as I was walking into her run. She jumped up on the fence ahead of my hand. I was so happy she hadn’t jumped on me, that I stopped and praised and petted her because she was such a good girl. From that one incident, she decided she would get petted if she jumped on the fence ahead of my hand. To this day, if I touch the fence she jumps up for attention – and gets it.
Zephyr went with Stephanie Hentschell on Labor Day 2023, to begin her conformation show career. Zephyr won her first points on Sept. 30, 2023 at the Monroe Kennll Club show in Monroe, MI and finished her CH title at the Grand Rapids Kennell Club show in Kalamazoo, MI on Nov. 12,2023. We are now looking at getting her ready for hunt tests.
Zephyr is an average sized girl with a great coat. I believe she will fulfill my hopes from this breeding.
