In late spring of 2018, I was presented with the opportunity to acquire Chief. Chief came to Sky Pond Chesapeakes as an AKC Conformation Champion as well as having his Canine Good Citizen title. Chief was shown by Polly Conrad Glass to receive his Conformation CH title.
Having had some training (also, having developed a few bad habits), it was decided to pursue Hunt Test titles for him. In October 2019, he finished his SHR title. He also has his first JH pass. However, the virus restrictions compelled us to put off further hunt test competition. In March, 2022, Chief went back to the show ring at the Kentuckiana Cluster in Louisville. Stephanie Hentschel handled him to two Best of Breed placings and a Select dog placing in three days. The three major (5 point) wins put him over the required points for his Grand Champion title.
Chief is an 88 pound, light brown Chesapeake that is an absolute joy to be around. His first pups are over two years old and we are watching closely as they develop. Reports from owners and our experience with Nellie has shown that he is passing on many good traits to his offspring. His second litter, with Willow, is looking exceptional. He sired 3 litters in 2021 and has sired two litters in early 2022. Chief has developed into a reliable breeding dog who is going to leave a legacy of outstanding progeny.
